Easier Than It Looks

So if you've been wondering what I've been doing lately.. here is one of my projects.

Of course I've had many of them.. such as making the crib skirt.. the curtains.. painting the walls.. making burp cloths.. bibs.. onesies.. etc.  I'd have to say out of all my projects, this is the one I'm most proud of.

My sweet mother-in-law gave us this car seat after my niece out grew it.  (Actually, she gave us two, but we found that one was expired. Boo!)  Jeremy and I knew we wanted two car seats.. one for each car... so we were very appreciative to receive this one for free!  Not too long ago I had Jeremy pull it from the attic.  As he's bringing it down he says.. Are you going to recover this?!  Hmm... I guess I could.  I mean, honestly I didn't think the pattern it was before was ALL that bad.  Not the cutest by any means.. but I didn't mind it.  Apparently he did :)  So since this was going in his car I figured I'd recover it to a fabric of his liking.  (For those of you that know my husband, can you imagine him in a fabric store?! hahaha!)  This wasn't his #1 vote.. I veto'd that choice.. Umm.... Georgia Bulldog fabric?!  No thanks :)  All in all I think I paid less than $20 for all the materials.  Not too shabby considering I checked Etsy before I decided to do it myself and the covers alone are at LEAST $100!

After I got home from the fabric store I have to admit.. I was a little overwhelmed at trying this.  Sure I've sewn curtains.. baby clothes.. etc.  But recovering car seats?!  I, by no means, consider myself an expert sewer.  I reviewed many DIY websites and finally settled on using this one as a reference on how to get started: http://www.makeit-loveit.com/2011/02/recovering-baby-car-seat.html
Basically you just take a part the old car seat cover and canopy and use it as a pattern.  I really thought the canopy was going to give me the most trouble.. but I have to say it was the easiest part!  I learned something while doing this project though.. I'm not a fan of bias tape! It's fine if you are sewing it on straight edges.. but the curves are a pain!  All in all I am happy with the results.. and most importantly Jeremy is willing to be seen with it in his Jeep :)  (Daddy's got to look cool ya know!)

When I get more time I'll post more projects.  I can't wait to post all the pictures of his room!!
