And We Shall Call Him...

We have officially decided on a name for our son!  I've always been a fan of names with meanings, after all I was named after my grandfather.  It made sense that my child would have a meaningful name as well, so we chose the name Reddick Joseph.  Reddick comes from several generations on Jeremy's side of the family.  Most recently his grandfather, Stark Reddick.  The name was passed to his Uncle.. and then to his cousin.  As a tribute to his late grandmother and grandfather, we decided to carry on the name.  I love to hear people's reactions or see the look on their faces when I tell them Reddick.  First they always ask me to spell it.  Simple.. just like it sounds.  My favorite reaction came from my grandmother though (more on that to come).  Some people say, well he won't be in a class full of other kids with his name.  Exactly!!!  As for Joseph, that came from my late grandfather.  My grandparents have always been a very influential part of my life.  If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be where I am today.. and most importantly.. we wouldn't have Reddick.  After making the final decision I thought I would call my grandma to share the news with her first.  I figured she would be touched.  Her reaction: "Are you still going to call him Reddick?"  Me: "Yes."  Her: "Well you now officially have the strangest name in the family."  (This would be a good time to mention that her name is Wilma Ermina.. really?!?). She said that I beat out my cousin (yes, this is you Laurie!  However, I personally don't think Grayson is a strange of a name.)  I'm not sure I buy that Reddick is "strange".. I'll give her "different".. but not strange!  It doesn't matter the reactions I get though, we love the name and that is all that counts!

Just in case you were wondering, no we will not be shortening his name :)  If you must use a nickname, feel free to call him Ace.  If he turns out anything like his dad, he's destined to have plenty of those in his future!
