It's Negative!!
A few weeks ago I visited the perinatologist where they performed an ultrasound and the Harmony test. The ultrasound was to measure neck of the baby to check for Down Syndrome. The Harmony test is a blood test that that looks for the existence of Trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome), Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome) and Trisomy 21 (Down Syndrome). It can also determine the gender of the baby, but I opted out of that part. I just didn't think a phone call saying "It's a ____" was the way I wanted to find out the gender of our child. The ultrasound took over an hour because our baby decided it was nap time :) First they asked me to cough, then they had me drink cold water. On two occasions the ultrasound tech left the room so that I could jump or run around in hopes that it would wake the baby up and it would flip over. I remember thinking, I can't wait to tell this story when our baby gets older. Here it is snoozing.. and I'm literally jumping, shaking and running around this room in hopes that it wakes up! Once again, this is definitely my husband's child.. waking up from naps is not easy! Finally, after a visit to the bathroom it decided to flip over. Success.. we got a neck measurement! The doctor is able to immediately inform us that based on the measurement, it looked like it didn't have Down Syndrome. We had to wait two weeks for the result of the blood test though. Today they called with the wonderful news... all the Trisomy test results were negative! In less than two weeks we find out the gender and I can't wait!!
